Lair of death and despair

Forgotten
Photo Credit: aussiegall via CompfightDeep Below an opera house
A cavern of rats, bats, and the occasional mouse
Psychotic laughter filled the lair
A Lair of death and despair
A noose on the ground stained with blood
The floor and walls all made of mud
One organ black as night
And a mask on top completely white
A lake ran by filthy and green
And a black musical throne worthy for a king or queen

  1. “A noose on the ground stained with blood.” I like how this references the story and the Phantom’s past, as well as adding to the creepy and evil mood.

  2. I like that the lake is green, giving me color imagery to contrast with the black of the organ, the white of the mask, and what I easily imagine to be the red of the blood and the brown of the mud.

How cool to have a poem to read among the narratives! Thank you.

  3. I love the rhythm and rhyme in this poem! Its very fluent and easy to read. Some poems i read have random words to put together the rhyme, but yours makes sense and gets to the point. My favorite part was “One organ black as night
And a mask on top completely white”. Well done!
